24 hours with Susannah Taylor

We joined beauty and wellness journalist Susannah Taylor at her Cotswolds home to chat about all things fitness. She lets us in on her non-negotiable morning run, her time spent foraging in her greenhouse for a tasty lunch. And tells us about her fitness inspirations including Olympic medallist Simone Biles to the surprising Spencer Matthews.

1. What’s the best track to get your heart pumping during a workout?
Sam Fender: Get You Down

2. What’s your favourite way to recover after an intense workout?
I LOVE a sauna and cold plunge.

3. Are there any exercises you dread the most but still do it?
A push up, ugh. They never get easier.

4. What is the most surprising benefit you’ve experienced from exercising regularly?
That my to-do list is less of a struggle. The fitter I am the more mentally on fire I am.

5. How about the most underrated exercise that everyone should try?
Walking!

6. What’s the one piece of fitness advice you wish you had known sooner?
Do it for your mind over your body.

7. What’s your go-to snack or meal before a workout?
A banana an hour before.

8. The biggest fitness myth you’ve debunked?
That we should be doing lots of cardio in mid life – we need to be lifting weights.

9. Do you have a fitness challenge you’re most proud of completing?
I trekked over 100km across the Wadi Rum in Jordan for Type 1 Diabetes.

10. Any inspiring fitness transformation story you’ve heard about?
Recently I’ve been following Spencer Matthews who has completed 30 marathons in 30 days across the desert in Jordan. His commitment, mental strength and transformation is INSANE.

11. If you had to sum up your fitness philosophy in one sentence, what would it be?
Switch it up. Don’t just do one type of exercise… I do yoga, walking, running, swimming…it means I never get bored.

12. If you could work out with any celebrity or athlete for a day, who would you choose?
Simone Biles.
