The Meek family motto is, “Adventure is out there; you just have to go and find it” and that’s exactly what they’ve been doing. They think it’s important for everyone – children and adults alike – to look for adventure, whether big or small, in life.
Parents Tim and Kerry want their girls to grow up with an adventurous mindset. Inspired by adventurers and their tales of amazing feats of bravery, but demotivated by the fact that they could not achieve the same, they set their own goal of 100 Family Adventures – small, achievable but exciting ideas for families to get outdoors and push their comfort zones.
Unhappy with the work / life balance they wanted to tip the scales in favour of more family time together in the outdoors. So, they made the radical decision to quit their jobs, sell their house and take their girls out of school for a year-long family adventure, travelling around the UK, living in a caravan.
During the year, the completed a “500 Fresh Air Miles” challenge, completing 500 miles using non-motorised transport. This challenge included journeys of 100 miles but also smaller bite size chunks of two – ten mile walks, scooters or cycle rides, showing that adventure does not have be an epic (and scary) adventure done by hairy, muscley men!!
