We’re pioneering 100% recyclable active wear. There is no template for a jacket like this. Every detail is designed for performance. 98% of this jacket is recycled from something else and 100% of this jacket can be recycled into something new. 73% of clothing ends up in landfill. We want to get that to zero.
Outer fabric: 70gsm 100% recycled polyester with PFC-free Teflon EcoElite™ water repellent finish offering up to 6.5k water repellence
Lining: 35gsm 100% recycled polyester
Insulation: 170 high loft Thermore Ecodown™ quick-dry, recycled polyester insulation. With a CLO thermal insulation of 2.0 and is designed to keep you warm even at zero degrees.
Lightweight with no bulk so easy to layer with a baselayer or sweat for supreme warmth.
Showerproof with a recycled polyester insulation keeps you warm even when it’s wet and then dries quickly. An adjustable toggle at the hood and hem to ensure a wind-proof fit. A ribbed inner storm cuff for warmth that you can fit your gloves into to keep the draught out. Finally, a secure internal chest pocket.
To make a jacket easily recyclable you need to make it from a single material so that it doesn’t have to be deconstructed. We chose 100% recycled polyester which we used for our fabric, thread and trims.
We choose 100% recycled polyester Thermore® Ecodown® because it’s made from the same fabric as the rest of the jacket so it doesn’t have to be removed before recycling (as you would have to do with down). It’s also made from plastic bottles, saving them from landfill.
We needed the trims, toggles and zip slide to perform well every time you wear your jacket. We couldn’t do that using polyester. We worked with other materials and made sure they were easy to remove and recycle separately.
One of our biggest challenges was to make a zip that was durable, recycled and recyclable. After much experimentation we’ve chosen the YKK Natulon zip in recycled polyester with a zinc zip slide. The slider will need to be removed so we’re still working to find a polyester one that is durable.
Jacket cuffs would normally use elastane but it’s not recyclable. To get around that we developed an inner cuff in a 1x1 rib that stretches without elastane. At the hood and hem we created an adjustable elastane-free cord with aluminium cord lock toggle.
A jacket is only recyclable if the facility knows how to recycle it. We collaborated with Project Plan B whose ground-breaking technology allows them to recapture the polyester from a garment at the end of its life. We hope you’ll wear, care and repair your jacket for many years and return it when you’re finished with it. When the time comes, you simply scan the QR code to access our take-back service so the jacket can be recycled with Project Plan B.
BAM is for people who love the outdoors and who want truly sustainable clothing. We couldn’t make a performance jacket from bamboo. We knew polyester would perform well. Our goal was then to ensure we used 100% recycled polyester for the whole jacket (we achieved this for all but a couple of trims) and to make it 100% recyclable.
