Learn how and why we’re creating sustainable, PFAS-free activewear.
PFAS – or per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances – are a group of synthetic chemicals commonly used to make fabrics water and stain-resistant. Often called “forever chemicals” because they don’t break down in the environment, ever. They’ve ended up in everything from non-stick cookware to food packaging and you guessed it, even activewear.
At BAM, we don’t think they belong there. We’re committed to creating PFAS-free activewear that performs brilliantly, without the long-term impact on your body or the planet.
We’re here to make clothing that’s better for the planet – and better for you. That means thinking carefully about what goes into our fabrics, and just as importantly, what we leave out.
PFAS have never had a place in our activewear, and they never will. Because we believe your gear should support your performance, without compromising your health or the environment.
The good news? You don’t need harmful chemicals like PFAS to get high-performance activewear.
We’ve spent years developing nature-based, PFAS-free fabrics like Mallea and Novea – designed to move with you, wick sweat, and feel incredibly soft on your skin. While traditional performance fabrics often rely on PFAS for water or sweat resistance, ours deliver the same results without the harmful side effects.
Made with the planet in mind and engineered with minimal elastane, they prove that comfort, performance and sustainability really can go hand in hand – no forever chemicals required.
Our 73 Zero collection is another big step forward. Every item is made from 100% recycled polyester – and to be clear, polyester itself is not a PFAS. These garments are designed to be fully recyclable at the end of their life, helping close the loop on waste. Because sustainability isn’t just about what fabric you choose – it’s about the whole journey.
We don’t think you need much convincing, but here’s why PFAS-free activewear really matters:
I’s better for the planet. PFAS don’t biodegrade. They build up in our environment, our water systems, and our wildlife. Keeping them out of clothing is one small but powerful way to reduce their impact.
It supports better industry practices. By choosing PFAS-free, you’re backing brands that are pushing for higher environmental standards and helping drive change across the industry.
We’re not alone in this. More and more brands are waking up to the impact of PFAS and stepping away from them. And that’s a good thing. This is bigger than one company – it’s about raising the standard across the industry.
For us, it’s simple: forever chemicals don’t belong in our future.
We’ve already made sure our outerwear reflects this. Take our Cloud Jacket – it uses Teflon EcoElite™, a bio-based, PFC-free durable water-repellent (DWR) finish. It performs brilliantly and avoids the environmental cost of traditional chemical coatings.
Looking ahead, our 2026 waterproof outerwear styles also have no forever chemicals. While we don’t currently have other showerproof products available, we’re continuing to develop more outerwear using innovative, chemical-free finishes like Teflon EcoElite™. Keep an eye out.
We’ll always be open about what goes into our clothes. We’ll keep asking the tough questions, investing in innovation, and putting our values first – because we believe sustainability is about doing the right thing, even if it’s not the easiest.
PFAS-free is just one part of that, but it’s an important one. You deserve activewear that’s kind to your body, the people who made it, and the planet we all share.
