Our fabric: This is luxury. Warmer than wool. More breathable than cashmere. Yet incredibly lightweight and so, so soft. We’ve blended our Yak wool with Merino for the most sublime yoga layering pieces. This knit is synthetic-free using fully traceable, low impact Yak wool. Certified recyclable by the Circular Textiles Foundation. Just send it back to us for free when it’s reached the end of its life using our 73 Zero Take back scheme.
Care: BAM knitwear is made with premium, all natural yarns. Wash less often with a cool hand wash with very gentle or no spinning. Squeeze the excess moisture out and dry flat.
Pilling is normal for fine, natural wool products – an occasional, gentle brush with a pilling comb will help.

Now you can see who made your clothes at every stage of the process.
We carefully consider everything, from the crop or raw material your garment is made from, to every process that it goes through. Now you can see which raw material or fibre went into your product and why we chose it. You can see who made the fibres into yarn, then fabric, then finally who stitched your item of clothing.
We can share this with you because we’ve been mapping our supply chain for years. We still have a few gaps (it’s an ongoing process) but where we do, we’ll highlight them and tell you what we’re doing about it.
Raw Material
Cultivation, production or extraction of raw materials
Yak's wool is warmer and more breathable than merino and still beautifully soft. It's also lower impact because compared with sheep, yaks feed more gently and have more efficient digestive systems so emit fewer greenhouse gases like methane. They also graze on naturally occurring vegetation in high altitude regions and are nomadic and so overgrazing on any one piece of land is avoided.
Wool has excellent performance properties, is a natural and renewable fibre, and is recyclable and biodegradable at the end of use. BAM uses transaction certificates to verify the origin of our wool. This helps us to ensure it comes from sources with responsible land stewardship practices as well as high animal welfare standards, including a ban on mulesing and other harmful practices.
Fibre Processing
Processing of raw materials into usable fibres
Shokay purchases raw yak wool from Tibetan herders to produce premium knitwear and accessories. Not only does this enable brands to connect directly to these local communities and source lower impact, traceable wool, but it also contributes towards real social change. Shokay provides training on best animal care practices and quality control for herders as well as access to the market to sell their wool.
Wool needs to go through a few processes, including cleaning, scouring, and blending to ensure the best quality, before it can be sold on to yarn mills for spinning and finishing. These processes usually happen in the same region as the farms. BAM uses merino wool because of its performance properties, high quality and softness.
